The advantages of rigid and flexible packaging in one container?

There were a ton of innovative specialty packaging ideas as the DuPont packaging awards. However, a few stood out from the crowd as they combined the advantages of rigid and flexible packaging in the same container. Just the fact that the container is using 54% less plastic is a huge deal but combining rigid and flexible in the same container is brilliant! DuPont also awarded other gold and silver awards at the event for other innovative packaging/container solutions.

PolyOne recently announced that Franklin Electric selected GeonTM FiberlocTM glass-reinforced vinyl composite for the control head of its new Inline 400 booster pump.

While Franklin Electric’s engineers investigated several options, Geon Fiberloc composite provided the only solution that enabled them to design and injection mold a complex control head and meet both NSF 61 and UL flame retardancy requirements. Additionally, Fiberloc enabled quieter pump operation by reducing noise and vibration.

A Smart Packaging Label...?

We have all heard of QR codes and smart products hitting the market recently. However, here is an innovative solution when it comes to the specialty packaging market. Johnnie Walker Blue Label whisky is trying out an electronically tagged bottle to enrich the consumers experience as well as provide supply-chain tracking. The label uses OpenSense technology to know when the bottles seal has been broken. It also adds a way to provide relevant content in a seamless and easier way to consumers such as recipes or promotional offers.
